LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos has been named to the Mexican National Team’s preliminary roster for their June World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and the United States, as well as the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the Mexican Football Federation announced today.
Dos Santos will join Mexico on June 4 ahead of their two June World Cup qualifiers: June 8 vs. Honduras and June 11 vs. United States. Both matches will be played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Dos Santos is also eligible for selection for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, beginning June 17.
In total, Dos Santos and 31 other players were named to the preliminary roster by head coach Juan Carlos Osorio, ahead of Mexico’s upcoming friendlies May 27 and June 1 against Croatia and Ireland. Dos Santos would join the squad after these matches.
In his most recent appearance, Dos Santos went 45 minutes and tallied an assist in Mexico’s 1-0 victory over Iceland on Feb. 8 in Las Vegas, his only 2017 appearance for the national team so far.
Dos Santos has recorded three goals and one assist in nine appearances so far this season, most recently scoring in consecutive games for the Galaxy. In 2016, he tallied 14 goals and 12 assists on the way to being named 2016 MLS Best XI.
