Beginning at 2 p.m. PT, LA Galaxy and StubHub staff, in addition to LA Galaxy players Brian Rowe, Daniel Steres, Rafael Garcia and Nathan Smith will convene at Playa Del Rey Beach to help clean the beach and surrounding area from trash and honor debris in continuation of the Protect the Pitch sustainability program. The event will mark the third-straight year that the LA Galaxy will partner with Heal the Bay to keep beaches throughout Greater Los Angeles safe, healthy and clean.
Protect the Pitch is a program launched by the LA Galaxy and StubHub Center last year that focuses on reducing the environmental impact of LA Galaxy games and practices at StubHub Center, supporting environmental projects in our community, and inspiring fans to help create healthier, more sustainable communities. As part of Protect the Pitch, the Galaxy and StubHub Center will continue to implement various efforts designed to engage the community, save water, conserve energy, and reduce waste while involving and encouraging the Galaxy fan base to support these efforts.
Last year, the LA Galaxy launched LA Galaxy Foundation Fridays, a series of monthly community service initiatives in the Los Angeles area throughout the 2016 season. Each month, the club supports and participates in monthly community service projects within Los Angeles communities throughout the 2017 season, led by staff, players, alumni, academy teams, alliance clubs and supporter groups who volunteer with designated organizations around Los Angeles.
