LA Galaxy II (7-15-5, 26 points) fell 2-1 to Sacramento Republic FC (12-8-6, 42 points) at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento on Saturday night.
Los Dos started the night in the best way, making only two passes before scoring in the game’s first 11 seconds for the fastest goal in league history. In LA’s first pass forward, Alejandro Covarrubias played a ball down field to Ethan Zubak from the Galaxy’s side of the center circle. Zubak rose to head the ball, popped it over the defender, and turned around to volley a long-range effort into the top corner of the far post.
Sacramento Republic FC slowly regained control of the game, and in the 21st minute, Republic FC’s Samuel Ochoa created space from LA Galaxy II defender Jean Engola, allowing himself to set up Luis Espino for an easy equalizer.
In the second half, Republic FC’s leading scorer Vilyan Bijev bagged the game-winner after collecting his own rebound and blasting an effort in the low corner past LA Galaxy II goalkeeper Eric Lopez.
Finished with the first of a three-game road stretch, LA now travel to face Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Tulsa.
