LA GALAXY HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID
On his overall view of the game:
“I thought we started off slowly. I think that's my fault, a little bit in terms of our preparation. I felt we had our press wrong. In the second half we talked about that. I was really proud with the way the team fought. I thought we fought and we battled and we showed a lot of character in the second half.”
On playing against NYCFC:
“They are a good team. Their nucleus on that team is the same as it was last year. There is a better cohesion in their group right now than it is for us but that is something that will come (for us).”
On LA Galaxy chemistry:
“It is still going to take time. Even Sebastian Lletget who we did not want to start this early he's playing, he's running and he’s working but you know his little touches just the timing of what he does is not there yet. That is going to take 5 or 6 games.”
LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER SEBASTIAN LLETGET:
On his overall view of the game:
“I thought it was a good effort from the group, we are still getting to know each other. The pitch definitely played a factor, it is something we are not used to, we knew this going into this, this is not an excuse. But I give credit to New York, they had a good way of playing, but we got the hang of it and we put some pressure on them and we created some chances but we couldn’t compromise.
On how the defense played:
“Yeah I think defensively we should have been more prepared in that sense. We should have communicated a bit better and anticipated a couple more things. Other than that it was a great effort. I mean we don’t like to lose, we are going to learn from this and it is a long season so…”
NYCFC HEAD COACH PATRICK VIEIRA:
On if NYCFC made it more difficult for themselves during today’s match:
“I don’t think we make it more difficult for ourselves. Galaxy played better in some part of the game and I think when you play against a quality team, you get a point during the game where you have to suffer, and of course when you concede the goal, it becomes more difficult because of the quality of players that they have on the team. But, I’m really happy, really pleased to win that game because it was against a tough opponent.”
On if it is difficult to define roles with a deep NYCFC squad this season:
“No, not difficult at all. I think we have a clear idea of how we want to play the game. Of course having more quality players on the bench makes it more easy for me to change, to rotate them. Today, Eben [Ofori], Ismael [Tajouri] and [Matarrita] came on because we needed fresh legs, we needed help and it’s going to be like that through the season. It will be really easy for me to change my starting 11 because of the quality of players I have on the team.”
NYCFC DEFENDER ANTON TINNERHOLM
On LA Galaxy’s second half:
“I think it was more about the 2-1 goal, they got a lot of energy when they scored and we didn't panic but it is what it iss football it's strange but when you have the lead 2-0 and have the chance to score 3-0 and instead the opponents score 2-1 they take over the game and they will have the possession a little more but it's great as a team to work together and we win and we take the three point that's the main thing, then it doesn't matter if we win 2-1 or 3-1 it makes no difference to me.”
