LA Galaxy II will open their 2019 USL Championship regular season against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Dignity Health Sports Park Track & Field Stadium on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Los Dos are set to return to USL action after a roster refresh during the offseason. In the months leading up to the season opener, LA Galaxy II made several additions to strengthen the team, acquiring Panamanian International players Ernesto Walker (C.D. Plaza Amador) and Carlos Harvey (Tauro FC), and signing Mexican Youth National Team standout Abraham Romero (Pachuca). LA Galaxy II signed former Eerste Divisie and MLS players Kai Koreniuk (AZ Alkmaar) and Nick DePuy (Montreal Impact), in addition to adding midfielder Don Tchilao, LA Galaxy’s 2019 MLS SuperDraft selection, and four players from other USL sides: Augustine Williams (Portland Timbers 2), Jose Hernandez (Real Monarchs SLC), Michael Gallagher (Real Monarchs SLC), Omar Ontiveros (Rio Grande Valley FC Toros).
Key returnees for Los Dos include LA Galaxy Academy graduates Adrian Vera and goalkeeper Eric Lopez. Nate Shultz, LA Galaxy’s 2018 MLS SuperDraft selection; Frank Lopez, Los Dos’ leading goal scorer in 2018; Justin Fiddes (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), former MLS defender; and former Liga MX players Geoffrey Acheampong (Veracruz) and John Requejo (Club Tijuana) will also return for their second season with LA Galaxy II.
Head Coach Mike Muñoz and his men will look for the pieces to come together on Saturday when they host Switchbacks FC. With both teams missing playoffs last season, LA Galaxy II and the Switchbacks will hope for the perfect start to the 2019 USL Championship regular season.
