2019 MLS Regular Season – Week 28
LA Galaxy vs. Sporting Kansas City
Dignity Health Sports Complex – Carson
September 15 – 7:00 PM PT
TV: FS1, TSN2
Desperate for three points in the hopes of moving above the playoff line in the Western Conference, the LA Galaxy host Sporting Kansas City in the Week 28 finale Sunday night.
The Galaxy (13-13-3) are one point below the playoff line and are coming off a 2-1 midweek loss at the Colorado Rapids that extended a winless streak to four matches. Cole Bassett latched onto Jack Price's free kick and headed in the game's first goal in the 79th minute. Giancarlo Gonzalez leveled three minutes later, rising up to meet Cristian Pavon's corner kick. The winner came in the 85th minute via a Nicolas Mezquida penalty kick after Andre Shinyashiki went down in the box. Video Review was called in twice late, negating a Pavon red card and not issuing a penalty kick when Danny Wilson kicked Rolf Feltscher's head with a high boot in stoppage time.

Ninth in the West and six points below the playoff line, Sporting (10-12-7) had a three-match winning streak snapped, conceding twice late in a devastating 2-1 defeat at the Portland Timbers Saturday night. Benny Feilhaber gave the visitors the lead in the 65th minute, but Jeremy Ebobisse equalized in the 83rd minute and second-half substitute Brian Fernandez netted the 90th-minute winner
This is the second meeting this season, with the Galaxy winning 2-0 at Children's Mercy Park May 29. Zlatan Ibrahimovic set up Favio Alvarez's first MLS goal in the 55th minute before adding an insurance goal four minutes from full time in his return from a two-game suspension.
