LA Galaxy sign defender Nick DePuy

LOS ANGELES (Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020) – The LA Galaxy have signed defender Nick DePuy from LA Galaxy II, the club announced today. Depuy, 25, is a product of Irvine and joins the first team after a standout year with Los Dos in the USL Championship, where he was named 2019 LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year.

“Nick has shown promise in his career with LA Galaxy II and we are confident in his ability to play at an MLS level,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “He was one of our most consistent defenders last season for Los Dos and we believe he will grow in his role on the first team. We look forward to Nick continuing to represent this club.”

Last March, DePuy signed a contract with LA Galaxy II before going on to play 1,901 minutes with 26 appearances and 21 starts while earning honors as the 2019 LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year. DePuy was part of an LA Galaxy II backline that helped earn a place in the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs.

With the Fury, DePuy made eight appearances, seven starts and tallied two goals.

The Irvine, Calif., native spent four years at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he accumulated 80 starts, 83 appearances, 31 goals and four assists. He was named three times to First Team All-Big West Conference between 2014 and 2016.

The Southern California product is one of eight players now on the LA Galaxy first team roster to be signed through the LA Galaxy’s developmental system: DePuy, Efrain Alvarez, Julian Araujo, Eric Lopez, Daniel Steres, Diedie Traore, Justin Vom Steeg and Ethan Zubak.
