GERMANY 1 ARGENTINA 0 (EXTRA TIME)
Germany are champions of the world once more.
Mario Gotze scored the game-winning goal in the second half of stoppage time to seal a 1-0 victory for Germany over Argentina in a match that was a cagey battle over 120 minutes.
The chances were limited across both sides, but the Argentines appeared to take the lead in the first half when it looked like Gonzalo Higuain beat Manuel Neuer from close range, but the linesman ruled it offside. After Higuain’s canceled opportunity, the chances were few and far between and the match ended scoreless in regulation.
Playing a purely defensive game, the Argentines sat back during extra time in hopes of reaching penalty kicks, but in the 113th minute, Gotze put the Germans ahead for good. The goal came when Andre Schurrle fed the Bayern Munich attacker, who fired a left-footed shot past Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero to put the Germans ahead for good.
Argentina had an attempt in the dying moments of stoppage time, but Lionel Messi fired a free kick over the bar sealing the victory for the European side.
Germany have now won four World Cup titles which ties them with Italy for second all-time among World champions. Die Mannschaft last won the title in 1990 defeating Argentina in the final by a single goal.
