Jaime Villarreal scores hat trick to lift Galaxy U-18’s to 4-1 win over Chivas Guadalajara

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, April 16, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18’s defeated Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico 4-1 as they concluded Bracket B play of the Gordon Jago Super Group in the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup on Wednesday afternoon at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The match will be aired on Time Warner Cable Deportes tonight at 8:30 p.m. PT.


"We will continue to establish ourselves as the top youth academy in North America,” LA Galaxy Academy Director Pete Vagenas said. “Today was simply an affirmation that we are well on our way.  Today was a testament to our club and the resources put into our youth development."


A hat trick from LA Galaxy U-18 forward Jaime Villarreal and a strike from Galaxy Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV powered the Galaxy U-18’s to a 4-1 victory over Chivas Guadalajara, finishing in second place in Bracket B with 4 points after a 1-1 draw against the RSC Anderlecht U-19 side on Sunday and a 2-0 loss to the Fluminense U-20’s on Monday.


"A fantastic performance,” said LA Galaxy Academy U-18 Head Coach Ante Razov. We executed our tactics perfectly with devastating effect. With a bit of luck we could easily have been top of our group. I couldn't be more proud of this group"


Despite today’s convincing victory, the Galaxy U-18’s were eliminated from the tournament.

LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-16’S DEFEAT TORONTO FC IN GA CUP: The LA Galaxy Under-16's earned their first victory at the Generation adidas Cup on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Toronto FC. TFC took a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Tomasz Balicki set up the influential Luca Uccello with a through ball.But the Galaxy brought on U.S. U-18 international Jorge Ruiz and high-scoring Dylan Smith just after Toronto's goal. Smith and Ruiz tallied as the Galaxy U-16's knocked off Toronto FC who had fallen to RSL's U-16 earlier in the week. The Galaxy dropped a 2-0 result to Stoke City on Sunday in their first match of the tournament.


“From the opening whistle we established that LA Galaxy was going to dictate this game.” said LA Galaxy Academy U-16 Head Coach Mike Muñoz. “Despite going down 1-0, our players showed fantastic resolve and ultimately got the result we felt we deserved." 


The Galaxy U-16's return to action on Thursday when they face Real Salt Lake at 4:00 pm PT.

LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-16’S QUALIFY FOR THE ACADEMY PLAYOFFS: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16’s (16-1-6) qualified for the 2013-2014 Academy Playoffs as the team received an automatic bid to the 2013-14 Postseason with a total of 54 points in 23 games played (2.35 points per games played). The team recorded a goal differential of 40 (Goals in favor 62, goals against 22) in the 2013-14 season thus far. The LA Galaxy Academy U-16’s had advanced to the 2010-11 Academy Finals Week and won the Championship for the first time since 2008.
