CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Oct. 3 , 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 will host Nomads SC at StubHub Center’s Field 5 on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Week 6 of U.S. Soccer Development Academy action. The U-18’s will take the field first at 12:00 p.m. PT, followed by the U-16’s at 2:30 p.m. PT and the U-14’s at 4:30 p.m. PT.
The Galaxy Academy U-18’s (3-1-1, 10 points) will kick off the first game of the tripleheader against Nomads SC U-18’s (2-3-0, 6 points) on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 12:00 p.m. PT. The Galaxy U-18’s are coming off 3-3 draw against the San Diego Surf U-18 side last Saturday. After this weekend’s action, the Galaxy U-18 squad will then travel east to play the Real Salt Lake AZ U-18’s on Saturday, Oct. 18.
This Saturday’s action will continue as the Galaxy Academy U-16’s (3-1-1, 10 points) host the Nomads SC U-16’s (2-2-1, 7 points) at StubHub Center’s Field 5 at 2:30 p.m. PT. In their previous game this season, the Galaxy U-16’s earned a convincing 5-0 road victory against San Diego Surf U-16 last Saturday as goals from five different Galaxy U-16 players, including a goal from the Galaxy U-16 leading goal scorer Ethan Zubak at the 10th minute, propelled the U-16’s to victory. With the win, the current 2013-2014 Development Academy Champions added their third victory of the 2014-15 campaign. After Saturday’s fixture, the Galaxy U-16’s, led by head coach Mike Muñoz, play at Chivas USA on Sunday, Oct. 5 before traveling to Arizona to play the Real Salt Lake AZ U-16 side on Saturday, Oct. 18.
This weekend’s USSDA tripleheader action will wrap up when the undefeated Galaxy Academy U-14’s (3-0-0, 9 points), on the heels of a 4-1 road victory over San Diego Surf last weekend, take on the Nomads SC U-14’s at 4:30 p.m. PT at StubHub Center’s Field 5.
GALAXY ACADEMY TEAMS GEAR UP FOR SÚPERCLÁSIQUITO: After Saturday’s action against Nomads SC, the LA Galaxy Academy will have a tight turnaround to prepare for Sunday’s SúperClásiquito tripleheader between the Galaxy and Chivas USA’s Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 academy teams as part of the 2014-2015 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. This will be the first of two SúperClásiquito encounters this season.
The USSDA SúperClásiquito kicks off at 10:00 a.m., as the Galaxy Academy U-18’s take on the Chivas USA U-18’s (2-3-0 overall, 6 pts.) at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex’s Field 5. The action continues at 12:30 p.m. between the Galaxy Academy U-16’s and Chivas USA U-16’s (1-3-1 overall, 4 pts.) at Bell Gardens. So far this season, the Galaxy U-16’s have outscored opponents 13-5, with forward Ethan Zubak scoring a team-leading four goals on the year.
The undefeated Galaxy Academy U-14’s will close off the weekend when they take on Chivas USA U-14’s (1-1-1 overall, 4 pts.) at 2:30 p.m. in the last game of the tripleheader in the third ever meet up between the two U-14 teams in Development Academy play.
LA GALAXY ACADEMY DEFENDER HUGO ARELLANO SCORES AS U.S. U-17'S DEFEAT COSTA RICA: LA Galaxy Academy defender Hugo Arellano scored as the U.S. U-17's crushed their counterparts from Costa Rica 5-2. Arellano and one-time Galaxy Academy forward Haji Wright started the match as the Americans dominated from start to finish with Wright scoring three times. But it was the Galaxy's U.S. U-17 defender who scored the game-winner with his tally in the 51st minute. The U.S. take on Canada on Oct. 3 before ending the tournament two days later against Panama.
GALAXY U-14 II’S PLAY SLAMMERS ON SUNDAY: The LA Galaxy Academy U-14 II’s return to Southern California Developmental Soccer League action on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 11:50 a.m. PT against CDA Slammers FC U-14 at Westminster High School’s Field #2. In their previous SCDSL match, the Galaxy U-14 II’s defeated affiliate club LA Galaxy South Bay U-14 Navy 5-1 on Sept. 28. The Galaxy U-14 II’s are currently undefeated, going 2-0-1 with 7 points this season.
U-13 NORTH AND SOUTH SIDES PICK UP WINS OVER THE WEEKEND: Both the LA Galaxy Academy U-13 North and South teams earned six points over the weekend. The Galaxy Academy U-13 North team earned a 3-0 shutout victory against Sand and Surf SC Black on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Manhattan Village Turf Field, while the Galaxy’s U-13 South side cruised to a 6-1 win at Westminster High School against CDA Slammers FC Canseco on Sept. 27. A day later, the Galaxy U-13 North secured a 4-2 win over affiliate club LA Galaxy Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon at Cal State Bakersfield’s Field 2, while the U-13 South earned a 5-0 shutout win over Sand and Surf SC Black at Manhattan Village Turf Field. With the wins, the Galaxy U-13 North side improved their undefeated record to 5-0-0. Galaxy Academy U-13 teams will take part in the SCDSL 2014 Show case this weekend, and will return to league action on Saturday, Oct. 18.
GALAXY ACADEMY PRODUCT OSCAR SORTO NAMED TO U.S. U-23 MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM: LA Galaxy defender Oscar Sorto has been named to a 21-player roster for the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team’s October camp in Brasilia, U.S. Soccer announced today. The group, which is beginning its early preparations for qualification toward the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, departs for Brasilia on Thursday, Oct. 9. The team will train from Oct. 10-12 and then face Brazil’s U-23 national team on Monday, Oct. 13, at Estádio Nacional in Brasilia. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. local (9 p.m. PT). The LA Galaxy Homegrown Player will be unavailable for selection when the Galaxy face FC Dallas on the road Oct. 12.
