CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Oct. 18, 2013) – While the LA Galaxy first team prepare for Sunday’s potential playoff clincher against the San Jose Earthquakes, the LA Galaxy Academy is preparing for Saturday’s SúperClásiquito tripleheader between the Galaxy and Chivas USA’s Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 academy teams.

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy SúperClásiquito kicks off at 4 p.m., with the undefeated Galaxy Academy U-14’s (4-0-0 overall, 12 pts.) hosting the unbeaten Chivas USA U-14’s (2-0-2 overall, 8 pts.) at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Facility. The Galaxy U-14 roster includes goalkeeper Eric Lopez and forward Jesus Nuñez, who were named to the U.S. Boys Under-15 National Team this week, as well as Hanif Wright and Noa Harrison, who are currently tied for the team-lead in goals with four.

The Galaxy Academy U-16’s (3-0-2 overall, 11 pts.), on the heels of two important wins in the Generation adidas Cup Regionals last weekend, take on Chivas USA U-16’s (2-1-0 overall, 6 pts.) at 5:30 p.m. on StubHub Center’s Field 4. Forward Jorge Ruiz, who was a part of the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program last year, has scored a team-high five goals through five games this season.

The final game of the tripleheader is the match between Galaxy Academy U-18’s (4-1-0 overall, 12 pts.) and Chivas USA U-18’s (0-2-1 overall, 1 pt.) at 8 p.m. on StubHub Center’s Field 4. So far in the season, the Galaxy have outscored opponents 18-6, with forward Adonis Amaya scoring a team-best seven goals this season, while Chivas USA has been shutout twice and have scored just a single goal on the season.

Last season, the Galaxy Academy U-18’s swept Chivas USA’s U-18’s in the season series, winning both games by a combined score of 7-1, while the Galaxy Academy U-16’s lost both games to Chivas USA’s U-16’s by a combined score of 6-2. This will be the first ever meet up between the two U-14 teams in Development Academy play.

U-16’S WIN TWO AT GA CUP REGIONAL: The LA Galaxy Academy U-17’s won two of their three Generation adidas Cup regional games played last weekend on the campus of UC Irvine. The weekend started off with a 3-2 come-from-behind win against the Portland Timbers U-17’s on Friday. Down 1-0 at halftime, Dylan Smith, Dmitry Zhuravlev and Ethan Zubak scored in the second half to give the Galaxy the win. On Saturday, the Galaxy once again found themselves down 1-0 at the half but got a timely goal from defender Malcolm Jones in the second half to send the game to penalty kicks, where the Galaxy won 4-2. On Monday, the Galaxy lost to Seattle Sounders FC 1-0 in the final game of the first of two regionals. In February, the Galaxy will travel to San Jose, Calif. for the second regional, where they will face Chivas USA.
