CARSON, Calif. (Friday, May 16, 2014) –The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 will host Arsenal FC at StubHub Center’s Field 5 on Saturday, May 17 in U.S. Soccer Development Academy action.
The Galaxy Academy U-18’s (17-5-3, 54 points) will kick off this weekend’s action when they host Arsenal FC U-18’s (5-16-5, 20 points) on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. PT. The Galaxy U-18’s are coming off a convincing 6-0 victory against Nomads SC as Adonis Amaya and Jorge Ruiz each tallied a brace while Jaime Villarreal and Hugo Gutierrez rounded out the scoring. The Galaxy U-18’s last met Arsenal FC last November as goals from four different Galaxy players propelled the Galaxy to a 4-1 victory. The Galaxy U-18 squad will then host Arsenal Strikers FC U-18 on May 31 for their final game of the USSDA regular season.
The action continues at 12:30 p.m. PT, as the Galaxy Academy U-16’s (17-2-6, 57 points) host the Arsenal FC U-16’s (7-14-5, 26 points) at StubHub Center’s Field 5. The Galaxy U-16’s defeated Nomads SC last Saturday in USSDA play as they cruised to a 5-0 victory over Nomads. Dylan Smith scored three goals while Ethan Zubak added a brace of his own in the victory. With their win, the LA U-16’s are 17-2-6 on the year. In the last meeting between the Galaxy and Arsenal U-16 sides last November, the Galaxy earned a 2-0 victory in Riverside with goals from Jorge Ruiz and Adrian Vera. The Galaxy U-16’s will put a cap to their 2014 season when they face Strikers FC U-16’s on May 31 at StubHub Center.
Saturday’s tripleheader action will wrap up when the Galaxy Academy U-14’s take on the Arsenal FC U-14’s at 3:00 p.m. Last Saturday, the Galaxy U-14’s demolished Nomads SC 9-0 as they improved their record to15-4-3 this season with 48 points in the Southwest Division standings. The Galaxy U-14’s defeated the Arsenal FC U-14’s last November in Riverside as a hat-trick from Galaxy U-14 forward Hanif Wright and second half goals from Jacob Muchnick and Salvador Segura secured a 4-1 victory for the Galaxy side.
LA GALAXY ACADEMY FORWARD JAIME VILLARREAL NAMED TO U.S. U-20 TRAINING CAMP ROSTER: LA Galaxy Academy forward Jaime Villarreal has been named to the upcoming U.S. Under-20 National Team camp which will take place from May 17-25 at N.C. State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The camp will be led by U.S. Under-20 assistant and Chicago Fire technical director Brian Bliss, and see the U.S. U-20’s take on the Carolina RailHawks on May 20, the RailHawks U-23 side on May 22 and the Wilmington Hammerheads on May 24. Villarreal has scored 10 goals in U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy play this season and tallied three times during LA’s participation in Dallas Cup.

TRISTAN WEBER, JACOB MUCHNICK AND ZICO BAILEY CALLED INTO U.S. U-14 BOYS’ NATIONAL TEAM TRAINING CAMP IN CROATIA: LA Galaxy Academy Under -14 standouts Tristan Weber, Jacob Muchnick and Zico Bailey have been called up by head coach Brian Johnson who will oversee the U.S. Under-14 Boys’ National Team training camp that will take place in Zagreb, Croatia from May 15-25. The camp will include matches against Croatia on May 19 and 21, Slovenia on May 22 and a to-be-determined opponent on May 24 and offer 20 of the 22 players their first taste of international travel with the U.S. Soccer Youth National Team program. It is the fourth camp of the current cycle, which began last September. Eighteen players on the squad are currently registered with U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams, and the LA Galaxy lead the way among Academy clubs represented with Bailey, Muchnick and Weber.
