CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, February 27, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18 and Under-16 sides return to U.S. Soccer Development Academy action this weekend when they go on the road to take on De Anza Force U-18 and U-16 at De Anza College on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively. On Sunday, March 2, The Galaxy U-18’s and U-16’s will take on the Santa Cruz Breakers U-18 and U-16 teams on the Cabrillo College, Stadium Field at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
Currently, the Galaxy Academy U-18’s are 11-3-2 this USSDA season with a perfect record of four wins in four matches in 2014. The U-16’s are now 11-0-5 overall and sit in first place in the Southwest Division standings with 38 points. Three of the four Galaxy U-18 players that spent the last couple of weeks training with the USL PRO side LA Galaxy II will be traveling north with the U-18 squad. Forward Jaime Villarreal, midfielder Elijah Martin and Galaxy U-18 leading goal scorer Adonis Amaya will make the trip to Cupertino, Calif. this weekend with the rest of the Galaxy U-18 squad.
Last Saturday, the Galaxy U-18’s defeated the U-16’s 3-2 before the inaugural White (LA Galaxy) vs. Blue (LA Galaxy II) preseason match at Stub Hub Center. The U-16’s, led by former Galaxy midfielder Mike Muñoz, held a 2-0 lead at halftime but the U-18’s scored three goals in the second half to steal the win.
JACOB MUCHNICK AND TRISTAN WEBER NAMED TO U.S. U-14 NATIONAL TEAM TRAINING CAMP:
LA Galaxy Academy products Jacob Muchnick and Tristan Weber were selected by U.S. U-14 Boys National Team head coach Tony Lepore for third training camp of the 2013-14 cycle at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center in Carson, Calif. from March 22 to March 30. Earlier this year, both Muchnick and Weber were among the 37 players called up by Lepore for the camp in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., from Feb. 1-9. To date, Muchnick, a Newport Beach, Calif. native, has scored one goal in 10 appearances for LA's youngest Development Academy team. Weber, a San Clemente, Calif. native, recently joined the Galaxy Academy from United FC.
LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-14 VS. CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AZTECS MATCH RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 7: The LA Galaxy Academy U-14 match against Central California Aztecs match scheduled for Saturday, March 1 at StubHub Center has been moved to Saturday, June 7 at StubHub Center – Field 5 at 10 a.m. (PT). Currently, the U-14’s are 10-2-2 this season and will resume USSDA play on Saturday, March 8 against Santa Barbara Soccer Club at Westmont College’s Lovik Field.
LA GALAXY ACADEMY U-18’S TAKE THE FIELD FOR LA GALAXY II: Three LA Galaxy Academy U-18 players participated in the LA Galaxy II’s closed door scrimmage against North American Soccer League side Minnesota United FC on Wednesday, February 26 at StubHub Center. Midfielder Elijah Martin and forwards Jaime Villarreal and Aaron Lombardi took part in the 2-1 victory over Minnesota that featured a brace from Galaxy Academy product Jack McBean. Galaxy II returns to action this Saturday when they take on CSU Bakersfield in a closed door scrimmage on March 1 at StubHub Center. They will be joined by Galaxy U-18 forward Aaron Lombardi who will participate in the match.
U-12 NORTH AND SOUTH TEAMS ENJOY UNBEATEN WEEKEND IN CAL SOUTH NATIONAL CUP: The LA Galaxy U-12 Academy North and South teams each registered two victories over the weekend in Cal South National Cup play held at the Lancaster National Soccer Complex in Lancaster, Calif. The LA Galaxy Academy U-12 North side defeated Chula Vista Premier FC Academy 6-0 on Saturday, followed by a 3-0 win on Sunday over Pateadores in Group C play. The Galaxy U-12 North team currently leads Group C with six points and will play their third and fourth games of the first round on Saturday March 1 against Albion SC at 9 a.m. and against West Coast FC at 1:45 p.m. The LA Galaxy Academy U-12 North escaped Saturday’s game against the Exiles with a 2-1 victory before blanking the Chelsea SC 5-0 on Sunday. The Galaxy U-12 South squad will continue play in Group H of the Cal South tournament this Saturday when they face United Futbol Club at 9 a.m. and Hotspurs USA at 1:45 p.m. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, which is set to be played on the weekend of March 8. The winning teams in each category will go on to represent Cal South at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. from June 16-22. The winners from the regionals will then move on to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship to be held in Maryland from July 21-27.
LA GALAXY U-13 TRYOUTS FOR PLAYERS BORN IN 2002: The LA Galaxy will hold tryouts for their Galaxy Academy Under-13 team on March 23 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Players interested in trying out for the LA Galaxy Academy’s 2002 team for 2014/15 season can register now by submitting an application online at www.lagalaxy.com/AcademyTryouts. Players born in 2002 will have the opportunity to be coached and evaluated by the Galaxy Academy staff during camps. There will be a limited number of tryout spaces for the LA Galaxy Academy 2014/15 2002 team. This will be a fully funded official LA Galaxy Academy team competing in the SCDSL U13 Flight 1.Registration for these tryouts are free.
