CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, March 12, 2015) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16 team will take part in the 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup. FC Dallas and Dallas Cup will host the week-long youth tournament that begins on March 29 at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. This year’s U-17 showcase will feature a total of 17 MLS Academy teams and a wide breadth of international clubs.


Tournament play began with three regional tournaments (East, Central and West) featuring U-17 teams from nearly all 20 MLS clubs. The Galaxy competed in two regional qualifying events from August 2014 to February 2015, finishing in the top three in the standings from the Western region and advancing to the Premier Division of the GA Cup finals.


The Premier Division consists of four groups of four teams. Clubs include LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo, Seattle Sounders FC, Chicago Fire, Orlando City SC, Chivas USA, D.C. United, Columbus Crew SC, Portland Timbers, Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution. The Premier Division will also feature four international youth teams: Sport Club de Recife (Brazil), Tigres UANL (Mexico), Sagan Tosu (Japan) and Club Deportivo Independiente Medellin (Colombia).

Generation adidas group play begins on Sunday, March 29 with the tournament final set for Saturday, April 4. A full Generation adidas Cup schedule and information on the tournament can be found here. MLSsoccer.com is scheduled to live stream select games, including the GA Cup final.


LA GALAXY UNDER-18'S TO PARTICIPATE IN DALLAS CUP GORDON JAGO SUPER GROUP: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18's will participate in the Dallas Cup Gordon Jago Super Group for a third consecutive year. The Galaxy Academy U-18 squad was placed in Bracket A of the Gordon Jago Super Group along with Gordon Jago Super Group reigning champion, Argentine side CA River Plate, current U-18 Barclays Premier League Champion Everton FC, and Japan’s Ryutsu-Keizai University FC. The tournament is set to kick off on March 29. The bracket champions, along with the best second place finisher, will advance to the Gordon Jago Super Group semi-finals, to be played on Friday, April 3. LA participated in the Super Group during both the 2013 and 2014 campaigns with such players as Jose Villarreal, Jack McBean, Bradford Jamieson IV, Raul Mendiola, and Oscar Sorto taking part.


LA GALAXY ACADEMY TEAMS HOST PATEADORES ON SATURDAY: The LA Galaxy Academy Under-18, Under-16, and Under-14 will host their counterparts from Pateadores Academy at StubHub Center’s Field 5 on Saturday, March 14 in U.S. Soccer Development Academy action.


The Galaxy Academy U-14’s will kick off this weekend’s action when they host Pateadores Academy U-14’s on Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. PT. The last encounter between both U-14 sides finished with a 0-0 draw at Vanguardia University in February.


The action continues at 4:30 p.m., as the first place Galaxy Academy U-16’s (16-3-6 overall, 54 pts.) hosts the Pateadores Academy U-16’s (11-9-6 overall, 39 pts.) at StubHub Center’s Field 5. In the last meeting between the clubs in February, Galaxy defeated Pateadores 3-0 as three different Galaxy U-18 players found the back of the net to propel the Galaxy to victory.


Saturday’s tripleheader action will wrap up when the Galaxy Academy U-18’s (14-6-5 overall, 47 pts.) take on the Pateadores Academy U-18’s (15-4-7 overall, 52 pts.) at 7:00 p.m. The Galaxy U-18’s played the Pateadores U-18 side to a 0-0 road draw last February.
