CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16’s enjoyed a big day on Saturday as they beat Chivas USA Academy U-16’s 6-0 at StubHub Center. Five different players scored a goal for the Galaxy, including Adrian Vera, who scored twice, and Jorge Ruiz, the team’s leading goal scorer who scored the game’s opening goal.
The win was the Galaxy Academy U-16’s fourth win of the season and matched their biggest win of the campaign, equaling the squad’s 6-0 win over the Portland Timbers Academy on Sept. 22. The win also extends their unbeaten streak to six games as the Galaxy Academy U-16’s improve to 4-0-2 on the season, including 2-0-1 at home.
Ruiz, who spent most of last season at the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program in Florida, put the Galaxy up 1-0 in the 12th minute with his sixth goal of the season.
In the 38th minute, Ethan Zubak doubled LA’s lead with his first goal of the season, followed by Alex Ramos who made it 3-0 four minutes later. Just before the hour mark, Dylan Smith made it 4-0 with his first goal of the season. Zubak and Vera were not the only players to score their first goal of the season as forward Adrian Vera also opened his account against Chivas USA.
Vera scored the Galaxy’s last two goals in the 67th and 78th minute to give the squad a 6-0 win.
Goalkeeper Bennett Sneddon played the full 90 minutes to record the shutout.
Next week the Galaxy Academy U-16’s go on the road to Orange Coast College to take on the Pateadores Saturday at noon.
GALAXY ACADEMY U-18’S SCORE IMPORTANT DRAW WITH CHIVAS USA: The LA Galaxy Academy U-18’s Bradford Jamieson IV scored the club's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with rival Chivas USA Academy U-18’s last Saturday. After a scoreless first half, Jamieson with his second goal of the season gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Chivas USA scored the equalizer for minutes later on a corner kick to make it 1-1. Next week, the Galaxy Academy U-18’s (4-1-1 overall, 13 pts.) go on the road to Orange Coast College to take on the Pateadores Saturday at 10 a.m.
GALAXY ACADEMY U-14’S GET 2-2 DRAW WITH CHIVAS USA: Behind goals from Jesus Nuñez and Edgar Salazar, the LA Galaxy Academy U’14´s (Pictured Above) earned a 2-2 draw against the Chivas USA Academy U-14´s last Saturday. After Chivas USA took an early lead in the 14th minute, Nuñez scored his sixth goal of the season to level the score at 1-1 in the 32nd minute. Chivas USA took the lead again on the hour mark, but with minutes left in the game Salazar rescued the point with his first goal of the season. The draw extends the Galaxy’s unbeaten streak to five games as the squad improves to 4-0-1 on the season. Next week, the Galaxy Academy U-14’s go on the road to Orange Coast College to take on the Pateadores Saturday at 2 p.m.
TWO INVITED TO U.S. U-15 CAMP: LA Galaxy Academy goalkeeper Eric Lopez and forward Jesus Nuñez were named today by U.S. Soccer to a U.S. Under-15 National Team training camp being held in Carson this week. Lopez and Nuñez, who have played for the Galaxy Academy U-14’s and U-16’s this season, were part of a 30-man roster that will train at StubHub Center from Oct. 26 - Nov. 3. During the week-long camp, the U.S. Under-15 will play four games against U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams.
U-16 B’S LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK THIS WEEKEND: After a week off, the LA Galaxy Academy U-16 B’s will be aiming to return to their winning ways in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League this weekend when the squad hosts a winless FC Los Angeles Black on Sunday. Head coach Andrew Boyens’ team last played on Oct. 12 when they were tripped up by Irvine-based Strikers FC Black 3-2. Chase Paulson notched his second goal of the season and Rodrigo San Roman added his team’s second goal, his third in two games, while raising his team high tally to four goals on the season. Kosuke Ide dished out his team-best third assist of the 2013 campaign and Patrick Murphy contributed with his first assist to go along with a pair of goals.
Heading into Sunday’s game, the Galaxy Academy U-16 B’s currently own a 2-3-0 record for six points on the season. FC Los Angeles Black are 0-4-0 this season and have been outscored 10-3. Sunday’s game will be played at 11 a.m. on the Stadium Field at Mira Costa High School.
U-14 B’S EYEING FIRST WIN OF SCDSL SEASON: The LA Galaxy Academy U-14 B’s have a golden opportunity to leapfrog Real So Cal Academy White in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League table when the two sides meet this Saturday. Seeking their first win in 2013 league play, the Galaxy Academy U-14 B’s are aiming to climb up in the standings after going 0-3-2 through their first five games of the season. In their last game on Oct. 12, the team was edged out at home 2-1 by LA Galaxy South Bay Gold and was blanked the following day 1-0 by United FC Black at North Torrance High School Stadium.
This Saturday, Oct. 26, the Galaxy Academy U-14 B’s will look to rebound against a Real So Cal Academy White side that has been shut out three times this season, surrendered three or more goals in four of their first six games and own a 1-3-1 record for four points. The game will be played at Oak Park High School on the Turf Stadium Field at 12:25 p.m.
U-12 NORTH AND SOUTH SIDES PICK UP WEEKEND POINTS: The LA Galaxy Academy U-12 North team won their second consecutive game in the 2013 Southern California Developmental Soccer League over the weekend while the Galaxy Academy U-12 South side remained unbeaten after earning a hard fought point on the road. The Galaxy Academy U-12 North team cruised to a 4-1 home victory against Manhattan Beach Sand and Surf on Sunday at Mira Costa High School Stadium, raising their record to 5-1-3 for 18 points. Head coach Alex Yi’s U-12 North team has netted 33 goals this season which is second-best in the SCDSL and is tied with LA Galaxy Academy U-12 South and FC Golden State for the best goal difference in the league at +23.
Head coach Braeden Cloutier’s U-12 South side extended their unbeaten streak to eight games by picking up a point with a 2-2 draw at North Ranch Field #1 against Real So Cal White on Sunday. The team is currently 6-0-2 for 20 points, leaving them in first place.
Both Galaxy Academy U-12 teams are off this weekend but return to league action on Saturday, Nov. 2. The U-12 North team visits LA Galaxy South Bay Gold (1-7-1, 4 pts.) at North Torrance High School Stadium at 10:50 a.m. Prior to the U-12 North game, the Galaxy Academy U-12 South hosts FC Los Angeles Black (5-3-2, 17 pts.) at 9:25 a.m. at North Torrance High School Stadium.
