CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-16’s scored three goals in the final 13 minutes of their game against Pateadores Saturday to remain unbeaten in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season with a 3-3 draw at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. The equalizing goal was scored by forward Jorge Ruiz (pictured above) in the dying moments of the game in the 80th minutes.
After falling behind 3-0 late in the second half, the Galaxy (4-0-3 overall, 15 pts.) scored three unanswered goals to record their third draw of the season and extend their unbeaten streak to seven games.
In the first half, Cesar Murillo for the Pateadores (0-2-1 overall, 1 pt.) had his way with the Galaxy. First scoring in the 14th minute and then again the 32nd minute to give his team a 2-0 lead. Murillo was not done, however. In the second half, he gave the Pateadores a 3-0 lead in the 66th minute when he completed his hat-trick.
But it only took a minute for the Galaxy to respond as Dylan Smith got one back in the 67th minute. Seven minutes later, Smith cut the deficit to one when he scored his second goal of the game and third of the season in 74th minute.
With six minutes left in the game, the Galaxy pushed up in search of the equalizer. In the final minute of the game, Ruiz leveled the score at 3-3 with his team-leading seventh goal in seven games.
With the result, the Galaxy remain unbeaten in the season, one of only seven unbeaten teams left in the Development Academy. The Galaxy Academy U-16’s will look to extend their streak this weekend when the club travels to Riverside Community College to take on Arsenal FC Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
