CARSON, Calif. (Monday, June 16, 2014) – The LA Galaxy (4-3-5, 17 points) will begin their quest for a third Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title when they enter the fourth round of the 101st edition of the longest-standing team tournament in the United States against Arizona United SC at the Peoria Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT live on Time Warner Cable Deportes.
The Galaxy have entered the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Owning a 24-13-1 all-time record in the Open Cup, the Galaxy have only ever lost to non-MLS competition four times in the history of the tournament. Two of those four defeats have come in the last two years as the Galaxy have fallen to the Carolina RailHawks of NASL in both 2012 and 2013.
During the break from MLS play the Galaxy will support Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez and the United States National Team as it competes in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Galaxy are hosting an outdoor viewing party for the United States match against Ghana today, Monday, June 16 at 3:00 p.m. PT at the Hermosa Beach Pier. The match will mark the start of the U.S. participation in the 32-team tournament. The event is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, June 22, the club will show the highly anticipated U.S. match against European power Portugal live at Lot 613 (613 Imperial Street) in Los Angeles. Tickets and details are available at http://joinordie.lagalaxy.com/.
Following the U.S. Open Cup fixture the Galaxy will then return to MLS action when they travel north to face their rivals the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 pm PT live on NBC Sports Network.
