CARSON, Calif. (Monday, July 28, 2014) – The LA Galaxy (7-4-6, 27 points) kick off the second half of the MLS season with a bang as they head to Seattle to take on Seattle Sounders FC (12-4-2, 38 points) at CenturyLink Field on Monday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. PT live on ESPN2. After a trip to the Pacific Northwest, the Galaxy will face another Cascadia side at home as they round out the week by hosting the Portland Timbers (5-6-9, 24 points) in another nationally-televised match on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11:30 a.m. PT at StubHub Center live on NBC.
Bruce Arena’s side has only lost four matches this season, tied for the fewest of any team in Major League Soccer. In 17 matches, the Galaxy have only allowed 16 goals, good for the best goals against stat in the League.
In tonight’s matchup, the Galaxy face the Western Conference leading Seattle Sounders, who have earned 38 points in 18 matches this year. Led by Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey, the Sounders have scored an MLS high 38 goals on the year. The Galaxy will look to improve on a 5-3-4 all-time MLS record against Seattle, including a 2-2-2 record in games played at CenturyLink Field.
The Galaxy return to StubHub Center for Saturday’s match against the Portland Timbers, who have lost just twice in their last seven matches. LA are 4-3-3 all-time against the Western Conference Timbers, tallying a 3-0-2 record in matches played at home, but are winless in their last five meetings against Portland.
Galaxy forwards Gyasi Zardes and Robbie Keane have been in strong form in recent weeks, scoring a combined six goals in the team’s past three matches. With six total goals this season, Zardes has already surpassed his rookie year scoring total of four while Keane’s 10 goals this year mark the third-consecutive season that the Irish international has scored in double digits in MLS play.
