CARSON, Calif. (Friday, July 26, 2013) – The LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer announced today that forward Landon Donovan has been added to the MLS All-Star Team as a replacement for injured Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane. The 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game will be played at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. on Wednesday, July 31 at 6 p.m. (ESPN2, UniMas, TSN, RDS) with the All-Stars set to face Italian Serie A side AS Roma.
This is Donovan’s MLS-record 13th consecutive All-Star selection dating back to 2001, which was his first season in the league. The all-time leading scorer for the Galaxy, Donovan has three goals and six assists while making 13 appearances in the league this season. He has helped his team to a 10-8-3 record, which leaves the Galaxy in third place in the Western Conference with 33 points.
In addition to his play with the Galaxy, the 31-year-old has also starred with the U.S. National Team this month. Donovan has scored seven goals and added seven assists in six games with the National Team in July, helping them reach a fifth consecutive Gold Cup Final. With 56 goals and 56 assists in 150 international appearances, Donovan is the first U.S. player to record 50 goals and 50 assists and just the fourth player in CONCACAF history to score 50 or more international goals.
Donovan replaces Robbie Keane who sustained a left hip flexor strain against the Portland Timbers on July 13 and missed last weekend’s 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC at StubHub Center. Keane, who was named to the All-Star Team for the first time in his MLS career, leads the Galaxy with seven goals and eight assists in the league this season.
