The LA Galaxy Community Clinic Series continued on August 7th where LA Galaxy Foundation visited the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley with the Positive Coaching Alliance. Fifty youth kept cool during the heat wave by playing inside the Boys and Girls gymnasium with LA Galaxy and Positive Coaching Alliance staff.
The clinic kicked off with LA Galaxy Camps and Clinics coaches splitting up the youth into three groups. The three youth groups rotated between ball skills, juggling, and a scrimmage. The youth enjoyed testing out their moves, shots, and playing together with their teammates.
Positive Coaching Alliance focused on being a positive leader both on and off the field for other athletes. They emphasized how to move past mistakes and see them as opportunities for growth in the athletes' personal journeys. Youth also played in a rock, paper, scissors tournament to demonstrate how to show positive sportsmanship whether they win or lose a match. The staff focused on ways youth can encourage themselves and others through positive comments and self-talk. Positive Coaching Alliance, a multi-year partner of the LA Galaxy community clinic series, highlighted how to positively impact teammates within the sports environment.
Wrapping up the clinic, all fifty youth were surprised with tickets to enjoy the LA Galaxy II home match against Fresno FC.
The LA Galaxy Community Clinic Series will continue to provide the opportunity for students to learn and use soccer to improve personally as an athlete in our community both on and off the field.
