On November 29th, the LA Galaxy Foundation welcomed 50 second and third graders from 24th Street School for a field trip to the StubHub Center. In the latest installment of the “Protect the Pitch” initiative, students were able to take a behind the scenes look of the grounds while also learning about the sustainability programs taking place around the stadium.
After exploring the Galaxy locker rooms and event suites, students made their way to the Galaxy Garden, which is one of the few edible gardens that are located inside major sports stadiums.
As lunchtime approached and stomachs began to rumble, students entered the American Express Stadium Club where Rachel Black, the students’ teacher from Garden School Foundation, had set up for their weekly cooking class. Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based learning for underserved youth in Los Angeles.
On the afternoon's menu was a healthy broccoli and carrot slaw. Students chopped broccoli, carrots, apples and onions before mixing in cranberries, Greek yogurt and apple cider vinegar. It was a unanimous two thumbs up.
With a new Galaxy notebook in hand, 24th Street School students posed for a group photo before making their way back to their bus. The LA Galaxy will continue to engage with the community and shed light on the positive environmental aspects the stadium has to offer.
