CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, June 3, 2014) – The LA Galaxy (4-3-4, 16 points) will clash with Chivas USA (2-7-4, 10 points) in the final match before the MLS World Cup break at StubHub Center on Sunday, June 8 at 5pm PT live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Univision Deportes Network.
The Galaxy have only lost to Chivas USA once in the past 17 meetings, going 12-1-4 dating back to the start of the 2008 season. All-time the Galaxy are 19-4-6 against their Southern California neighbors and 10-2-3 in matches in which the Galaxy are the home side. The Galaxy trumped Chivas USA 3-0 in the first meeting of the season as goals from Robbie Keane, Stefan Ishizaki and Baggio Husidic propelled the Galaxy to a Sunday afternoon victory April 6.
Landon Donovan found the back of the net again over the weekend. Since returning to the Galaxy from the United States Men’s National Team World Cup camp, Donovan has scored three goals and added one assist in two matches. Donovan has tallied 11 goals and 16 assists against Chivas since the club’s 2005 inception.
The Galaxy will be without Keane who will join the Irish national team for two matches starting June 6 against Costa Rica at PPL Park and against Portugal at MetLife Stadium on Tuesday, June 10. Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez remains with the U.S. Men’s National Team as it prepares for the World Cup.
Following Sunday’s match against Chivas USA the Galaxy will take a three week break from the MLS regular season during the Group Stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. During the break the Galaxy will begin its quest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on the road at Arizona United SC at the Peoria Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The Galaxy will then return to MLS action when they travel north to face their rivals the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 pm PT live on NBC Sports Network.
