The start of Wednesday night’s meeting between Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah has been delayed 45-60 minutes due to a lightning strike during the national anthem, both teams have confirmed.
Real Salt Lake are asking fans to seek cover in the stadium or return to their cars.
The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory for Southwestern Salt Lake and Northwestern Utah until 8:15 MT, indicating that a line of strong thunderstorms is moving northeast at 35 mph that could produce winds of up to 40 to 55 mph in the Salt Lake area.
