CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, April 17, 2013) – The LA Galaxy announced today that the club will take part in the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup, an eight-team tournament that will take place throughout the United States this summer. In addition to the Galaxy, the tournament will also feature Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus as well as Spanish power Real Madrid.

The four remaining teams that will compete in the tournament will be announced on Tuesday, May 7 while a complete schedule of games for the Galaxy and all other teams will be announced at a later date. More information about the tournament can be found online at www.internationalchampionscup.com.
“It is an honor for the Galaxy to be able to represent Major League Soccer against some of the world’s top clubs in the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup,” Galaxy President Chris Klein said, “Our fans are accustomed to seeing their team take on the world’s elite club teams in summer friendlies and we are excited to be able to continue that tradition here in the Southern California as well as in other cities throughout the United States.”
The tournament will open in Europe on July 27 in a city to be determined and be contested over seven days at six marquee venues across the United States, with semifinals in Los Angeles and New York on August 3-4. In addition to Los Angeles and New York, games will also be played in Phoenix, San Francisco and Indianapolis before the tournament culminates at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on August 6-7.

FOX Soccer will televise 11 of the tournament’s 12 matches live, including the championship on August 7 at 6 p.m. (PT). FOX Sports will also add to the coverage and broadcast a match live on Saturday August 3 at 5 p.m. (PT). In future years the tournament will be televised by FOX Sports 1, FSMG’s newly minted national multi-sport cable channel launching in August.
Each of the eight teams in the tournament will play at least three games with the Galaxy scheduled to play one of their games in Los Angeles on August 3 or 4 against a yet to be determined opponent and at a yet to be determined location.
