CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy Under-14’s earned a 4-3 penalty kick victory over Liverpool FC on Tuesday. Los Angeles and LFC played to a 2-2 draw
Liverpool took an early lead with a pair of goals in the opening 45 minutes with strikes from Evan Ferguson and Ethan Ennis. Head Coach Andrew May’s battled back with tallies from Diego Alvarez and Walter Portales to send the match to penalties.
In the shootout, the Galaxy advanced as Robert Kaemmerer scored the decisive goal to give the Los Angeles the win.
“What an incredible learning moment for this group,” May told LAGalaxy.com. “Down 2-0 against a top international academy in Liverpool, but the players showed strong mental strength never to stop working. This is exactly the kind of experience we were looking for in the ICC Futures tournament. We are very proud of the boys.”
The Galaxy dropped their first match to German power Borussia Dortmund on Monday. They’ll play New Jersey All-Stars on Wednesday with the game televised on LAGalaxy.com.
