CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014) – The LA Galaxy Academy Under-17’s are set to take part in a Generation adidas Cup Regional this weekend in Portland, Ore. The event is the first of two such regionals taking place ahead of next year’s 2015 GA Cup, and will help define the seeding for that competition.
The Galaxy Academy U-17’s are one of six MLS Academy teams taking part in the regional including Portland Timbers, Chivas USA, San Jose Earthquakes, RealSalt Lake, and Seattle Sounders FC. All games are being played at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center in Beaverton, Ore.
The Galaxy’s first game is on Friday, Oct. 10, against the Chivas USA Academy U-17’s at 6:30 p.m., followed with a matchup against the Real Salt Lake Academy U-17’s the next day at 2 p.m. The third and final game will be on Monday, against the Portland Timbers Academy U-17’s at 11 a.m.
Following the games in Portland, a second regional event will be held in Los Angeles with the LA Galaxy as the host club next year in February. The entire GA Cup West Region schedule and standings are available on MLSsoccer.com by clicking here.

LA GALAXY U-18’S PICK UP TWO WINS OVER THE WEEKEND: The LA Galaxy U-18 Academy continued their winning ways this past weekend in the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season following a pair of 2-1 victories. On Saturday, the team had to come from behind to deal Nomads SC U-18’s a 2-1 defeat at StubHub Center’s Field 5. After the visitors jumped out to an early lead in the 18th minute, Adrian Vera netted his eighth goal of the season in the 68th minute to level the score at 1-1. Just when the game seemed destined for a draw, in the closing moments of the game, Vera scored again in the 89th minute to grant the Galaxy U-18’s their fourth win of the season. The following day, the team traveled to the Bell Gardens Sports Complex to once again overcome a one-goal deficit and steal a 2-1 victory. This time, rival Chivas USA U-18 took a 1-0 lead in just the third minute of play. Ten minutes later, Sebastian Velasco equalized with his first goal of the season. Galaxy U-18 forward Dylan Smith played the role of hero by bagging his fourth goal of the season in the 90th minute to solidify a second consecutive victory for the Galaxy U-18’s. Head coach Ante Razov’s team, now with 16 points on the USSDA campaign, will take the weekend off and return to league action on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10:00 a.m. PT against Real Salt Lake Arizona at Grande Sports World’s Field 7.
LA GALAXY U-16’S DRAW NOMADS, SHUTOUT CHIVAS USA: The LA Galaxy Academy U-16’s tied against Nomads SC U-16’s on Saturday before picking up their fourth victory of the 2013-14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season on Sunday. Head coach Mike Muñoz’s squad secured a 2-2 draw against Nomads SC at StubHub Center’s Field 5 on Saturday, as Ethan Zubak scored a brace in the team’s draw at home. The Galaxy U-16 squad finished the weekend on a high note by blanking Chivas USA U-16’s on the road 4-0 at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex. Jason Ballejo opened the scoring for the Galaxy U-16’s in the 20th minute. Zubak doubled the team’s lead 25 minutes later for his seventh goal of the season. Seven minutes into the second half, Zubak scored again to give the visitors a 3-0 lead, before Salvador Segura rounded out the scoring in the 80th minute for the definitive 5-0 result in favor of the Galaxy U-16 side. With four goals on the weekend, Zubak raised his season and team high tally to eight goals. Through seven games, the team has accumulated 14 points and returns to USSDA league action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 12:30 p.m. when they play on the road against Real Salt Lake Arizona U-16 at Grande Sports World’s Field 7. This weekend, the Galaxy U-16’s will participate in the Generation adidas Cup Regional taking place in Portland, Ore from Oct. 10-13.
GALAXY ACADEMY U-14’S EARN 5-5 DRAW WITH CHIVAS USA: Behind goals from Christian Gomez, Kyle Holcomb, Jake Arteaga and a brace from Jonathan Estrada, the LA Galaxy Academy U’14´s earned a 5-5 draw against the Chivas USA Academy U-14´s last Sunday. After LA Galaxy U-14’s took an early lead in the 2th minute, Chivas USA took a 5-2 lead by the 49th minute, but the Galaxy were able to score three unanswered goals to rescue a point at the Bell Gardens Sports Complex and remain undefeated in league play. A day earlier, on Saturday, the Galaxy U-14’s crushed the Nomads SC U-14 side 8-1 for their fourth win of the season. Saturday’s win and Sunday’s draw extended the Galaxy’s unbeaten streak to five games as the squad improved to a 4-0-1 record on the season. The Galaxy Academy U-14’s will now return to action when they go on the road to Kern County Soccer Park to take on the Central California Aztecs U-14’s on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. PT.
GALAXY U-14 II’S DEFEAT SLAMMERS FC, 3-1: The LA Galaxy Academy U-14 II’s defeated CDA Slammers FC U-14 3-1 at Westminster High School’s Field #2 last Sunday morning. With the win, the Galaxy U-14 II’s improved their record to 3-0-1 with 10 points and remain undefeated in Southern California Developmental Soccer League action. The Galaxy U-14 II’s will return to action this weekend when the team hosts Arsenal FC U-14 at Rolling Hills Preparatory School Stadium Field at 2:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 11.
