LA Galaxy U-19's to face New York City FC in Academy Championship Final

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy Under-19’s will play for the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy Championship on Tuesday (5:30 pm PT/LAGalaxy.com) in Kansas City.

Los Angeles advanced to the final on Sunday with a 2-0 extra time win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Efrain Alvarez and Alex Mendez scored as goalkeeper Eric Lopez and a stout Galaxy defense kept the clean sheet.

"We are as ready as we will ever be.  I do not recall ever seeing this group enjoy their football as much as they have over the last 3 weeks (playoffs).  [Tuesday], we need 90-plus minutes of work rate, focus, and execution to get the job done against a very talented NYCFC team," head coach Brian Kleiban said. "Each of the previous 5 MLS opponents we have faced in the playoffs has posed a similar challenge in terms of their athleticism and strength on the counter.  NYCFC will pose a completely different challenge.

"NYC is a team that is reliant on having the ball, not necessarily using the counter like our previous opponents.  They have a well-balanced team with great match winning talent, boasting several Homegrown Players on their roster."
