The LA Galaxy U-19’s fell 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout to New York City FC in the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy Title in Kansas City on Tuesday.
James Sands buried the decisive penalty in the final round of the shootout to give New York the title after NYC goalkeeper Johan Peñaranda stopped Galaxy defender Jake Arteaga a round earlier.
The match was a back-and-forth affair between the two competitive sides. Los Angeles had several opportunities to pull ahead throughout the 120-minute affair but were repeatedly denied by Peñaranda.
Ultimately the match was to be decided from the spot as both sides made their first three penalties before Peñaranda denied Arteaga's effort. Moments later, Sands stepped up in the next round and buried his attempt past Galaxy U-19 'keeper Eric Lopez to seal the title.
