LOS ANGELES (Wednesday, May 14, 2014) – The stage is set at StubHub Center for America’s premier national search for the best undiscovered young soccer player in the country, as 18 hopefuls from coast to coast, including six finalists from the LA Galaxy try-outs, compete this week in Southern California for the National Finals of Sueño MLS 2014 – Presented by Allstate.
The 18 national finalists, including 15 field players and three goalkeepers chosen from nearly 3,000 hopefuls from across the country, will be in greater Los Angeles area through Sunday, May 18, for five days of competition and mentoring by top soccer legends, including MLS Colombian World Cup icon Carlos “Pibe” Valderrama, Mexican goalkeeping legend Martin “El Pulpo” Zuñiga and former MLS head coach Alfonso Mondelo, the league’s current technical director.
The 15 field players are battling for the Sueño MLS 2014 – Presented by Allstate trophy while the three goalkeepers are vying for the Allstate “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper - El Portero Allstate award. In addition, both winners will be invited to join a youth-level team at the MLS club each represented at the National Finals.
The 18 finalists will battle against the LA Galaxy Academy Under-17 team at StubHub on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. PT in the last of the five days of competition and mentoring in their search to become the next Sueño MLS 2014 – Presented by Allstate winners. The two winners, a field player and a goalkeeper, will then be announced live on Sunday, May 18 on Univision Network’s República Deportiva, which has chronicled the competition in a “reality show within a show” format.
