Three Points: LA Galaxy brush aside Toronto FC, 3-0

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano’s Three Points to the Galaxy’s 3-0 win over Toronto FC. Robbie Keane notched a brace and Alan Gordon scored late as the LA extended their unbeaten run to 10 games.

EFFICIENT GALAXY MAKE QUICK WORK OF TORONTO FC

Two goals by Robbie Keane in a three-minute span in the first half were all the LA Galaxy needed to defeat Toronto FC on Saturday night in front of 24,064 at StubHub Center.

Toronto appeared active early on as their speed gave the Galaxy defense fits, but in the 22nd minute Keane put LA ahead after finishing a silky pass from Marcelo Sarvas. The Irishman added his second goal—and his 19th of the season—just three minutes later when A.J. DeLaGarza delivered a pinpoint pass from the right flank that Keane finished on an impressive volley. Alan Gordon joined in on the scoring in stoppage time with an impressive 30-yard blast from distance to tally his fifth goal since joining the club in August.

The win helped the Galaxy extend their unbeaten run to 10 games, which is the longest unbeaten streak for the Galaxy since they racked up a 14-game mark in the early stages of their Supporters’ Shield-winning 2011 season.

MLS SCORING KING LANDON DONOVAN BECOMES ALL-TIME MLS ASSIST LEADER

Landon Donovan added yet another record to his distinguished career on Saturday night by setting a new MLS all-time assist record.

Donovan notched his 136th assist, bypassing New England Revolution great Steve Ralston, to take sole possession of the league’s all-time assist mark. The assist came in the 25th minute of play when Donovan aided in the build-up of Robbie Keane’s stunning volley on LA’s second goal of the evening.

Now that Donovan has sole possession of the league’s two great scoring marks, he can take aim at one final record before he hangs up his boots—winning a potential MLS record sixth MLS Cup.

ROBBIE ROGERS GOES DOWN WITH A HAMSTRING INJURY BUT JAMES RILEY STEPS IN

A left hamstring injury felled left back Robbie Rogers in the early stages of the LA Galaxy’s – win over Toronto FC, but reserve defender James Riley stepped in admirably during the victory.

Rogers, who has been plagued by hamstring injuries since joining the Galaxy last season, went down and was unable to continue in the 16th minute of play, forcing Bruce Arena to bring on Riley. Despite making his first appearance since suffering a left lateral meniscus tear on March 22nd, Riley showed no signs of rust. Matched up against Toronto FC speedster Dominic Oduro, Riley’s positioning helped keep the Toronto attacker at bay.

With Rogers joining the walking wounded along the Galaxy backline, Riley’s competent reserve performance offered LA a ray of hope heading into next week’s match against FC Dallas.
