ORLANDO, FL— LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points to the LA Galaxy’s 4-0 loss to Orlando City SC.
DEFENSIVE MISCUES PLAGUE MAKESHIFT BACKLINE
It was an afternoon to forget for the LA Galaxy as defensive miscues and errors plagued the team's makeshift back four as they fell 4-0 to expansion side Orlando City SC.
Throughout the evening, Orlando put intense pressure on center backs Tommy Meyer and Leonardo. Whether it was Kaka or rookie forward Cyle Larin, the Lions capitalized on any Galaxy defensive error as Penedo was unable to keep the home side from hammering four goals into the back of the net. The loss was the Galaxy’s largest margin of defeat since they fell 5-0 to the New England Revolution on June 2, 2013.
The Galaxy played the match without three starting defenders as Dan Gargan (yellow card suspension), Omar Gonzalez (rotation) and Robbie Rogers (ankle injury) did not feature.
OFFENSIVE DISCONNECT WITH YOUNG LINEUP
The Galaxy’s difficulties weren’t limited to the defense as the attack stalled in the humid Orlando heat.
With Orlando dominating the possession, the Galaxy could create little going forward as their strikers were left isolated. When the Galaxy did get their foot on the ball, they found themselves unable to test Orlando City’s defense.
The Galaxy only had one shot on goal the team throughout their 90 minute defeat, which they did not record until the 88th minute of play.
SEBASTIAN LLETGET MAKES HIS LA GALAXY DEBUT
The LA Galaxy had a difficult afternoon in Orlando, but Bruce Arena did get a chance to see new signing Sebastian Lletget who made his club debut.
Lletget went 21 minutes playing in central midfield after checking in for Mika Vayrynen in the 69th minute of the team’s 4-0 defeat. Due to Orlando’s dominance on the ball, we saw little from the 22-year-old, but the partnership of Juninho and Lletget may be something that we see in the future.
Due to the Galaxy’s struggles in the attack, it would not be shocking to see the former U.S. youth international slide the lineup as soon as next week’s Friday clash with the Houston Dynamo at home.
