CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points to the Galaxy’s 4-1 victory over D.C. United. Alan Gordon, Omar Gonzalez, Baggio Husidic and Landon Donovan scored as the Galaxy won their third match in a row.
LA GALAXY DOMINATE FROM START TO FINISH
The LA Galaxy signaled their intention to challenge for the MLS Supporters’ Shield with an impressive post-to-post domination over D.C. United.
Alan Gordon put the Galaxy ahead just 65 seconds into the match with his second goal since returning to the club, but the goals didn’t end there. Omar Gonzalez found the back of the net in the 25th minute with a right-footed side volley in what was the eventual game-winner. The finest goal of the night was LA’s third as the Galaxy completed 27 passes before Baggio Husidic punched in his second goal of the season.
An own goal by Leonardo and a brave goalkeeping performance by United goalkeeper Bill Hamid threatened to bring D.C. back into the match, but a penalty kick finish by Landon Donovan in the 75h minute ended the rally.
OFFENSIVE POWERHOUSE?
The absence of Robbie Keane didn’t prevent the LA Galaxy from continuing their recent offensive tear in their 4-1 thumping of D.C. United.
With their four-goal performance against United, the Galaxy have now scored 16 goals in the month of August and tallied multi-goal games in their last three matches. The Galaxy have now racked up three straight victories while taking a total of 13 points in six matches this month.
With the final SuperClasico looming against Chivas USA on Sunday, the LA Galaxy will have an opportunity not only to further push up the league’s scoring charts, but also continue their drive for the MLS Supporters’ Shield.
#CHASINGSTEVE?
Landon Donovan has just 10 more regular season games remaining in his illustrious career, but the U.S. Soccer legend may yet add another honor to his list of accolades.
Donovan notched two assists in the LA Galaxy’s 3-1 victory over D.C. United to bring his career regular season total to 127. Remarkably, the performance is just the seventh multi-assist game of Donovan’s lengthy career in MLS. His passing wasn’t the only high point, however, as Donovan scored from the penalty spot for his third goal in three games.
With 10 games remaining on the docket, Donovan should have every opportunity to make a run at the mark.
