Tommy Meyer

How Acquired: Selected by the Galaxy in the first round (19th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.

The Galaxy’s first-round selection in 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Meyer has become a consistent and steady defender who can pair with any other Galaxy center back. 

MLS Highlights

2014: Recorded career highs in starts (10), appearances (12) and minutes (926) to bolster the Galaxy’s backline that allowed an MLS fewest 35 goals during the regular season. Meyer also contributed to the Galaxy’s 2014 MLS Cup Playoff campaign, playing in two matches and starting in one. Meyer played the full 90 in the club’s first leg of the Western Conference Semifinal series against Seattle Sounders FC to help record a shutout as the Galaxy won 1-0.

2013: Meyer built off of his rookie season and continued to contribute to the Galaxy’s backline, making five starts in seven appearances during the course of the regular season.

2012: Had a strong rookie season, starting in seven matches in eight total appearances during the MLS Regular Season. In addition to his regular season contributions, Meyer was crucial in the Galaxy’s run to their fourth MLS Cup title as he started and played 90 minutes in all six matches, including the 2012 MLS Cup Final against Houston.

College Highlights

2011: An All-Big Ten selection as a senior, Meyer started all 22 of Indiana’s games while recording a career-high seven assists and helping his team keep nine clean sheets on the season. Four of his seven assists came in two games as he tallied two assists in the 6-0 win over Dayton and the 2-0 win over Rutgers before adding single assists in the 3-2 home loss to Louisville, the 4-1 win at Michigan and against Northwestern in the Big Ten Semifinal. He entered the season never having more than two assists in a game but finished his senior season second in the conference. 2010: Appeared in and started 19 of IU’s 20 games, and was named to the All-Big Ten second team. He had two assists on the year, tallying one in the 2-1 loss at Brown and his second in the 2-1 win over Michigan when he set up Caleb Konstanski for the eventual game-winning goal. 2009: Firmly established himself in the starting lineup, starting all 22 games that he played in as Indiana kept 10 clean sheets, including four in wins over top 25 teams. He recorded the first assist of his collegiate career in the 1-0 win at Wisconsin on 9/25. In the NCAA Tournament, he led a defense that kept two clean sheets and allowed just one goal in three games. 2008: Appeared in 18 games while making 16 starts as a freshman, helping the Hoosiers record seven shutouts, including two in the NCAA Tournament. Was named to the Big Ten All- Freshman Team and the College Soccer News All-Freshman second team.
