LOS ANGELES (Friday, Feb. 21, 2020) – The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Jonathan Perez to a Homegrown Player contract, the club announced today. Perez, 17, has been a standout product in the LA Galaxy Academy since joining in 2016.
“Jonathan has been a bright prospect in our Academy and we think he is ready to begin his career as a professional,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “We believe he will continue progress in his career with the Galaxy. We look forward to Jonathan learning and growing in our professional environment.”
Since 2016, Perez has represented the LA Galaxy Academy’s U-13, U-14, U-15 U-16/17 and U-18/19 sides, making over 100 appearances and scoring 41 goals over that span.
The Southern California product is one of 10 players now on the LA Galaxy first team roster to be signed through the LA Galaxy’s developmental system: Perez, Efrain Alvarez, Julian Araujo, Nick DePuy, Cameron Dunbar, Eric Lopez, Daniel Steres, Diedie Traore, Justin Vom Steeg and Ethan Zubak.
The five-time MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy’s 2020 home opener is set for Saturday, March 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7 p.m. PT.
