CARSON, Calif. – Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not save an LA Galaxy offense that came close, but could not best Tim Melia or the goal frame on Sunday night.
The Galaxy rattled the woodwork three times and forced a whopping 10 saves from the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in their 2-0 defeat at StubHub Center. Despite trailing in possession, the Galaxy dominated the shot totals with a whopping 22 shots compared to just 13 for Sporting.
Sigi Schmid's squad rattled off chance after chance on the evening, but repeatedly found themselves denied by either Melia or the woodwork. The 10 saves on the evening set a career-high for the Sporting KC goalkeeper.
Following the game, Schmid admitted that his squad did enough to create chances, but ultimately, it just wasn't enough.
"We deserved a goal, for sure," Schmid said. "I think we did enough to deserve a goal, if not two, but obviously, our defending wasn't too good on the two goals that we took."
