LOS ANGELES – Cobi Jones knows soccer in Los Angeles, and the LA Galaxy legend walked away from Sunday’s launch of the team’s new primary kit overjoyed with the support the city shows it’s most successful club.
Jones was among those honored before the Galaxy’s exclusive presentation of the 2018 primary kit at the Novo in Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday. More than a thousand Galaxy supporters packed the concert venue to see the unveiling of the new uniform.
In his 22 years as an ambassador for the beautiful game in the City of Angels, Jones admitted that he hadn’t seen anything like Sunday’s event.
“I think it’s amazing. It shows far soccer has come in Los Angeles and in the country since 1996,” Jones told LA Galaxy Insider. “It’s amazing to see the production that is put in just to announce our jersey. I think this is more than we did our whole first season.
As the city prepares for the arrival of the league’s newest club this season, Jones believes that the success of Sunday’s event should serve as a reminder who is the big dog in town.
“It’s a shot across the bow,” Jones said. “It says, OK, well, LAFC may be located near USC, but don’t forget, we’ve been here since 1996 and have established ourselves as Los Angeles’ team.”
