CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos returned to training on Friday and will be available for next week’s U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against the San Jose Earthquakes per head coach Curt Onalfo.
The 28-year-old Mexican international trained with the team for the first time on Friday since returning from his participation in the 2017 Confederations Cup with Mexico. Dos Santos appeared in three games for Juan Carlos Osorio’s side as El Tri completed the tournament with a fourth-place finish.
After his first day of training, Onalfo asserted that dos Santos will ‘absolutely” be available for selection for Monday’s match in San Jose.
“He looks great. He only had one day back, but he’ll be great to have that kind of quality back in the team. It’s good to have him back,” Onalfo told LA Galaxy Insider. “We missed Gio for seven games –five of those being MLS games. There are no two ways about it, we missed him.
“He was in the best form of the year and he was playing well. Anytime you get a huge asset back in your team for such a big game is a great feeling.”
Dos Santos has enjoyed success at Avaya Stadium this season with a brace during the Galaxy’s victory in San Jose in May. The 28-year-old has scored six goals in 12 appearances this season.
