LOS ANGELES – A LA Galaxy fan favorite and one of the greatest outside backs to ever play the game is hanging up his boots.
Ashley Cole announced his retirement from professional soccer on Sky Sports Sunday morning. The greatest left back of his generation, Cole told Sky Sports that he is turning his attention to coaching as he begins the next step in his career.
Cole’s career in Europe will prove legendary as he earned three Premier League titles, won seven FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, while also being named UEFA Team of the Year twice. Internationally he amassed 107 England caps and played at three FIFA World Cups for the Three Lions.
Following his time in Europe, the former Galaxy captain spent three seasons in Los Angeles, making 86 appearances for the club while scoring three goals and tallying 12 assists. He spent the final season of his career with Derby County in the English Championship.
