Giovani dos Santos knows something about scoring against the United States.
The LA Galaxy striker scored the most famous goal in his professional career back in 2011 to help El Tri defeat the USMNT and win the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Now five years down the line, dos Santos is out for more, this time against his former head coach.
Dos Santos and Mexico will lineup against ex-Galaxy boss Bruce Arena’s U.S. on Sunday at the legendary Estadio Azteca. Both teams will be coming off victories as El Tri, and the USMNT picked up wins on Thursday against Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.
The match with the United States is always extra special for Mexico, and dos Santos admits that he'll be looking to create a little bad fortune for his former boss.
“Every time that I play with the national team it's a joy. If I can score, it would be amazing and very good,” he told LA Galaxy Insider with a smile. “And maybe, it’ll be very bad for my ex-coach Bruce.”
