CARSON, Calif. – Giovani dos Santos returned to the LA Galaxy this week with a spring in his step following a pair of impressive performances with Mexico.
Dos Santos rejoined the Galaxy on Thursday after playing in two matches with Mexico, scoring a goal and an assist while captaining the squad in both games. The 27-year-old arrives at the perfect time for the Galaxy who are likely to be without Steven Gerrard (hamstring) and Robbie Keane (undisclosed injury) for their pivotal game against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.
After earning high marks with El Tri, Dos Santos is ready to lead the Galaxy in their match with the Dynamo.
“I feel good. I’m just happy to be back in the team. I had two days of recovery, and today I trained in full with the team, and I feel good for the team,” Dos Santos said. “I think everyone on the pitch knows what they have to do. Stevie and Robbie are very important players for the team, and when they’re not in the team, and then others have to step up and do their best.
“Every game, I try to do my best, and I think although we lost two important players, everyone needs to work hard and step up.”
With the Galaxy looking to clinch a home game in the Knockout Round, Dos Santos says that the Houston match as a “must-win.”
“I think the team is ready for these two games. We have a lot to gain in these two games. Everyone has been working really hard this week. I think that everyone is a good shape for Sunday,” Dos Santos said. “This team is prepared for these two games. We have to win on Sunday against Houston. We need to get six points [to end the season].”
