Father’s Day carries special importance for LA Galaxy striker Gyasi Zardes.
Zardes’ father Glenn set a tremendous example for the future Galaxy star to follow and one that he attempts to pass on to his young son Gyan and daughter Maylie Faith. In the latest edition of MLSsoccer.com’s Extra Time Radio, Zardes speaks about his father’s influences on his parenting style.
“He sacrificed a lot of time. He had five kids and was always running around. He made sure our family was always together on the weekend,” Zardes said. “We had Sunday dinners, and that’s something that I’m trying to implement in my kids’ lives that we always stay together. I only have two kids, and they’re small, but as they grow older, I want us to always stick together because my dad is so close with his family.
“I want to instill that into my family because as I watch him, I can see that it is an amazing journey.”
Now a father himself, Zardes says that it is important to be a good role model to his two children.
“Once Gyan was born, I had to mature and grow. I realized that it wasn’t about me anymore, it was about him. He comes first,” Zardes said.
