CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy legend David Beckham turns 42 today, and in honor of Becks’ birthday, I decided to take a look back at five of my favorite Beckham goals.
THE 70-YARD SHOT
David Beckham is no stranger to a long-range blast, and he showed off that skill in a Galaxy uniform with his classy finish against the Kansas City Wizards back in May 2008. With Kevin Hartman (sorry Kev) way off his line as the Wizards pushed for an equalizer, Beckham received the ball off a corner kick and launched a shot from 70-yards that sailed into the net.
BECKHAM’S CURLER IN SALT LAKE CITY
One of the best Galaxy goals that you’ve probably never seen came back in May 2008 when Beckham tallied a remarkable finish in the team’s 2-2 draw vs. Real Salt Lake. With the Galaxy trailing by two, Beckham curled a remarkable right-footed shot inside the far post to put the team on the board.
THE BARCELONA FREE KICK
David Beckham built his legacy on his picturesque free kick finishing, and the Galaxy star notched one of his memorable goals in front of 93,137 at the Rose Bowl. In the final minute of the first half, Beckham expertly placed his free kick past FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto. The goal sent the entire crowd into a frenzy as Galaxy and Barcelona fans alike admired Beckham’s tally.
THE OLIMPICO
David Beckham’s corner kick service made him an attacking threat each time he kicked the ball, but against Isidro Metapan, he was able to find the back of the net. In a CONCACAF Champions League match, Beckham twisted a corner that confused the Salvadorian goalkeeper and bounced into the goal to help seal the win for Los Angeles.
THE PORTLAND SCREAMER
This goal from July 2012 will always have a special place in my heart as it took place in my first game as the LA Galaxy Insider. Everything about this strike is perfect from his 30-yard bomb to his celebration and even casual shrug at the end.
Simply Epic.
