CARSON, Calif. – Jonathan dos Santos believes that he could feature for the first time for the LA Galaxy when his new team takes the field against New York City FC on Saturday.
Dos Santos could make his home debut this weekend after going 28 minutes in the team’s defeat to Portland last Sunday. Following his fourth full training session with his new team, the 27-year-old Mexican international told reporters that he felt fit and ready to contribute in any way possible.
“This is another opportunity to play in front of my fans with a great game against a big club as well as a with an ex-teammate [with FC Barcelona], David Villa. We hope to win this game which I think is important for the confidence of the team,” dos Santos said. “I am training more at my rhythm each time, it’s difficult because I hadn’t played in some time, but the important thing is that I am here to contribute to the team is what the coach asks of me.
“It’s what I have always done, to help the team in defense and [offensively], and to help balance the team, and that is what I will intend to do for the team.”
Just a couple of days out from their match with New York City, Galaxy boss Sigi Schmid revealed that he’s confident that his new defensive midfielder will be able to make a substantial impact on Saturday.
"He's making progress all the time," Schmid said. "Every practice is a positive step and moves him one step closer to being at game fitness and game shape. It’s one thing when you’re working out on your own but it’s another when you’re working with teammates, things are coming along well. He seems to be happy."
