The LA Galaxy Academy U-14’s will participate in the inaugural International Champions Cup Futures tournament, presented by Rakuten, beginning on July 16 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
ICC Futures will feature 24 teams from the United States and Europe, comprising of the top U-14 youth players in the world, including eight academy teams associated with Major League Soccer teams, eight U.S. state-represented All-Star teams and eight European academy teams associated with leading professional soccer clubs. The bracketed tournament will take place over seven days, with the winner being named ICC Futures champion.
“The ICC tournament is a great event with quality competition both domestic and international,” said LA Galaxy Academy U-15 Head Coach Andrew May. “The ICC tournament will give our players valuable international competition that will help them not only in this coming season but throughout their development process. We as a club are excited about this great opportunity and thankful to the ICC for inviting the LA Galaxy Academy.”
LA Galaxy Academy’s U-14 team drew into Group 7, which includes Borussia Dortmund and ICC All-Stars NJ. The Galaxy U-14’s will first face Borussia Dortmund on Monday, July 16 at 7:30 a.m. PT.
The ICC Futures quarterfinals will be televised on ESPNU on July 20th, the semifinals on ESPNEWS on July 21 and the final on ESPN2 on July 22. A complete schedule of the fixtures is available here.
