CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy should have plenty more healthy bodies back on the field when they host Real Salt Lake on Tuesday in their annual Independence Day matchup.
Los Angeles started a youthful squad (average age 23.7) against San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday after being without 12 players due to injuries, suspension, and international call-ups. The Galaxy will once again be without a host of players on Tuesday as Jelle Van Damme (suspension), and Giovani dos Santos (international duty) will join the list of absences.
However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for head coach Curt Onalfo as Ashley Cole, Romain Alessandrini, Bradley Diallo, and Daniel Steres each trained on Monday and could be healthy enough to play a role on Tuesday.
“Without giving away what’s happening, we’re in a much different situation than in San Jose. That’s a positive for us,” Onalfo told reporters. “Some of these guys are game-time decisions, but Ashley is making good progress as have some of the other ones.”
