MINNEAPOLIS --- The LA Galaxy and Minnesota United are both on the rise after slow starts to the 2017 season, but the Galaxy are hoping to send the Loons back into a spiral ahead of the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
The Galaxy are riding a three-game unbeaten run highlighted by the squad’s 3-1 road victory over the New York Red Bulls last week at Red Bull Arena. Meanwhile, Minnesota sit level on points with the Galaxy with 11 in their opening 11 matches after starting the season with just one win in five games.
“We’re hoping to put them back where they started,” midfielder Baggio Husidic said of the Loons who have seven points in their last five games. “This isn’t a game where we’re going to go and play the most beautiful soccer, but we are going to go there and get some points.”
The task at hand will not be an easy one for Los Angeles, however, as Minnesota have made their climb up the table due to their impressive form at TCF Bank Stadium. The Loons have compiled a 3-2-0 record at the venue this season and will undoubtedly pose a tough test for Curt Onalfo’s Galaxy side.
“It’s a tough venue. It’s a turf field. It’s narrow, they haven’t conceded a lot at home," Onalfo said, referencing the nine goals Minnesota has conceded at home this season -- six in one match. "We’re going to have to have a road mentality, push the game and do whatever we can to mimic what we did last week."
