CARSON, Calif. -- Raul Mendiola has been a revelation for LA Galaxy, and now the 21-year-old midfielder will have an opportunity to translate his success with in the USL to the first team, starting with Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup match against amateur side PSA Elite.
Mendiola figures to play a role in Wednesday's clash after being left on the bench for Los Dos' Open Cup defeat to Ventura County Fusion. To date, Mendiola has shined with Galaxy II notching a league lead seven assists as well as three goals for a team that has charged up the Western Conference standings in recent weeks.
The 21-year-old also figures to have some needed information on the United States Adult Soccer Association side having played with the likes of Justin Dhillon and Nathan Smith with the Galaxy Academy.
“I’m pretty excited about this and I’m looking forward to it, I just need to be concentrated when the game comes and get a result,” Mendiola told LA Galaxy Insider. “I know some of the guys on their team but when we all step on the field, we’ll have to appear against and play well. But we have a game plan, and we have to execute.”
