LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard penned his first columns for The Telegraph declaring his intent to go into coaching once he calls time on his legendary career.
Gerrard, who will write a column for the publication each month, wrote that if he decides to hang up his boots following his 2016 season with the Galaxy, the midfielder expects to go into coaching.
"Nothing is 100 percent certain yet, but this season at LA Galaxy could be my last as a professional footballer. I know I’m in the twilight of my career," Gerrard wrote. "I am starting my UEFA ‘A’ license shortly, and the Football Association are proving to be proactive and hugely encouraging in helping former players onto the coaching ladder.
"I was invited to meet the England Under 19 side earlier in the season, and further opportunities are planned in future international breaks. I know players like Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher have received similar invitations. It’s something I’m keen to push further."
Gerrard also offered his full support for his former club Liverpool as they prepare to take on Manchester City in the League Cup Final on Sunday. It's of little surprise that the former LFC captain and club icon tipped his old side for victory when they meet Man City at Wembley.
So deep is Gerrard's passion for Liverpool that the Galaxy midfielder was able to convince head coach Bruce Arena to push back the club's flight to Mexico for their CONCACAF Champions League match against Santos Laguna back so he could watch the match.
"When I told Bruce the kick-off time, he pushed training and our flight to Mexico back an hour on Sunday to ensure I didn't miss it. Like with every Liverpool match this season, I will be watching but trying to kick every ball. I will feel like I have played," Gerrard wrote. "After their experiences in recent seasons, I know how hungry some of those players are for that first winners’ medal. If they win, I also know how hungry they will be to win even more."
