CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy President Chris Klein addressed the state of the LA Galaxy prior to the team’s 3-0 defeat to the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.
Speaking on the FS1 California Clasico pregame show, Klein acknowledged that the Galaxy find themselves in the midst of a significant “reset.” The Galaxy are presently 0-9-1 in their last 10 games and have won just a single league game at StubHub Center in 2017.
“We’ve moved on [from] a team that was old, that was built to win last year,” Klein said. “I don’t know if I’d call it a youth movement, but we needed a reset with our team.”
The Galaxy President acknowledged that for all the team’s struggles, they have endured a “perfect storm” of injuries to expected contributors like Baggio Husidic, Sebastian Lletget, Robbie Rogers, and others. The team’s issues led to the appointment of new head coach Sigi Schmid last month.
As the team looks forward to the final nine games of the season and a looming vital offseason, Klein was bullish that the team will be aggressive as they seek to right the ship.
“We have good DPs that are in the prime of their career,” he said. “[We’ll have] guys like Sebastian Lletget back; hopefully Gyasi [Zardes] starts to play like Gyasi. We can continue to build.
“We know that we haven’t gotten the production up top. We know that in the back we have some pieces we have to add. We have every ambition to be the best club in this league.”
