CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy slipped down the latest MLS Power Rankings after their 3-1 defeat to the Portland Timbers.
The first defeat of the (second) Sigi Schmid era extended Los Angeles’ league winless streak to six games. The Galaxy have one win since May and presently find themselves in ninth-place in the Western Conference, nine points back of the final playoff position.
The rationale behind the major Power Rankings placements can be found below:
“After a 3-1 loss in Portland, the Sigi Schmid era isn't exactly off to a great start in L.A. Problems in midfield need sorting out.”
"With only one point from their last 21, LA have very little margin for error if they’re to make up the nine-point gap separating them from the playoff field. The move to a five-man backline, which helped plug the leaks vs. Portland, could shore up a leaky defense with David Villa coming to town."
